Super Simple Fourth of July Craft

preschool Fourth of July craft

Looking for an easy way to celebrate the Fourth of July with your preschooler? Look no further than this easy fireworks painting project.

I learned this project well over a decade ago, during my first job from a very clever toddler teacher and have been using it ever since with kids of all ages. Depending on the child’s age, the results will vary in how realistic they look. To get the best looking “fireworks” you’ll want to make sure the pipe cleaners are straight (so that they are able to lay flat in the paint and then on the paper).

All you need are pipe cleaners, washable paint, and paper! For our paper this time around we used big pieces of butcher paper salvaged from Amazon packages.

To make the fireworks:

We chose 3 colors: red, blue, and gold
  1. Cut 4 pipe cleaners in half. Twist 3 together to make a star shape. Use the 4th to create a handle for your firework.
  2. Repeat so that there is one pipe cleaner firework stamp for each color you intend to use. We chose 3 colors for ours.
  3. Pour paint onto a paper plate or other surface.
  4. Dip the stamp into the paint, then put it on your paper. Turn, and repeat, until you get a full “firework”.
  5. Repeat with as many colors as desired.
