A Snowy 7QTs

Winter has arrived in Michigan. And with it has come the clouds, the perpetual gray, and the snow. So here are our snowy and dreary quick takes.

1. Snow. In November. We got about 6 inches here, all of which fell upon our piles of leaves, so that will be fun when the snow melts.

2. I am glorying in the fact that we have a fully fenced in backyard that I can see from the kitchen because it means that the big two can go outside on their own. They love the snow, but Charlotte decidedly does not. And I am not sorry to have an excuse to stay indoors. . .

3. If you’re on Instagram, make sure you’re following @adventbookbasket for one heck of a giveaway coming in the next few days- one book for every day of Advent. My contribution is A Small Miracle by Peter Collington, one of our new Christmas favorites. It’s a beautiful pictures-only story of an old woman on Christmas Eve. It will spark conversations with your child about poverty, and seeing people despite their circumstances or outward appearances. In the story, the Nativity figures come to life to help this woman, and my favorite page has an illustration where Mary is sitting next to her while she sleeps, just being present. It brings me to tears. It is definitely worth purchasing if you don’t win the giveaway.

4. Charlotte is living her best life today. This morning she managed to pin William to the ground while wrestling, and then, during classroom time, she figured out how to work the electric pencil sharpener.

5. Mark is on a urology month currently, which means that life is just a touch more sane. Urology does home call instead of in-house, which means he fields pages and phone calls, but only has to go to the hospital if there’s a real emergency. I am so grateful for the technology that allows us to avoid 30 hour shifts.

6. I’m also grateful for this amazing woman, my mom, who shows up and unasked tackles projects that just never make it to the top of my to-do list. Yesterday she re-covered a chair from our kitchen table, and today she is organizing Mark’s tools. I would be lost without her. It really does take a village.

7. This is my view currently. The Pressprich house is utter chaos, and it is just wonderful. It’s hard sometimes to remember to take a deep breath and not get overwhelmed or upset by the number of messes these kids create in a day, but I’m managing it so far today. They are playing beautifully together, and have been (mostly) helpful with chores and school work, so I am embracing the mess and listening to their giggles while I get some of my own work done.

Happy Friday! I’m linking up with Kelly this week, so head on over for some of her wisdom and the other quick takes!
